As a Closures Systems Intern, you will be responsible for conceiving, cooperating, managing and engineering dynamic exterior systems for Tesla vehicles. You will work through all stages of the product design cycle, from initial sketch and clay modeling, through architecture and design and finally to validation and product launch. You will be part of the team that creates and executes some of the most notable hallmarks of Tesla vehicles. RESPONSIBILITIES • Conceptualize, design, engineer and launch Closures Systems components for CIW, Mechanisms and Sealing product lines while providing insight from Chinese markets. • Engineer innovative products for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight. • Participate in the iterative process with the Tesla Design engineer to deliver the optimal balance of form and function. • Support manufacturing processes and material selection to achieve world class execution of automotive craftsmanship for fit and finish. • Optimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments. • Interpret/develop Tolerance Analysis, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results and integrate feedback into product designs. • Manage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/ production build events. • Become a technical expert in Closures Systems commodities at Tesla Gigafactory 3 and troubleshoot complex issues together with global team. • Act as technical consultant to support Global Supply Managers on making strategic sourcing decisions. REQUIREMENTS • Major in Mechanical Engineering or Material field. • Preferred experience with CAD software, like Catia. • Strong understanding of engineering principles, mechanics of materials, GD&T, Tolerance Analysis, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, SPC, etc. • Knowledge of stamping, welding, kinematic systems, injection molding and manufacturing processes/tooling. • Fluent English and Mandarin.
